Sam Lucas' Story

When you talk to Sam Lucas, it doesn't take long to see he's truly an individual with a unique skillset and background. To get where he is today, Sam didn't take a conventional path. Having played soccer from a very young age in the UK, he was focused on a path that would lead to a career in football.  While on that road, he worked in the leisure industry, coached, and taught school children and even trained to be a full-time firefighter. 

Then, as circumstances would have it, Sam decided to start a new chapter and work in the financial industry. As he describes it, "I went to the University of Canaccord Genuity." Over the past 21 years, he's had experience in Dividends, Settlements, Corporate Actions, Client Take-on, Compliance, Operations, and the Capital Markets. "That skillset and experience base," he says, "is why I am where I am."

With that variety of knowledge and experience, comes wisdom. And what wisdom can Sam offer in terms of how to approach business? It comes down to integrity and teamwork. "To me, integrity is so important because it has such a broad impact--at a personal level, at a corporate level, for Canaccord Genuity, for our clients. If you have integrity, ultimately, it wins business. Because at the end of the day, it's about trust." And as for teamwork, well, take it from a footballer, who still plays whenever he can: "To make something work, you can't do it alone. Winning comes through teamwork."
