On 17 April 2012, The College of Law, a Canaccord Genuity client, announced the conditional sale of its legal education and training business, which will continue to be known as The College of Law ("The College"), to the European private equity firm Montagu Private Equity ("Montagu"). The sale is conditional upon the receipt of certain regulatory consents, which are expected to be forthcoming over coming months.

The College is the leading provider of professional legal education and training to prospective and practicing solicitors, barristers and paralegals in Europe with c. 7,000 students, and one of only five private providers in the UK with degree-awarding powers.

The proceeds from the sale, combined with cash already held in the charity, will create a significant charitable fund in excess of £200 million with which the charity set to be renamed The Legal Education Foundation will further its charitable object to promote the advancement of legal education and the study of law for future generations of students through bursaries, scholarships and grants.

Canaccord Genuity was appointed as financial advisor to The College in September 2010 to assist the Governors of the College with a Strategic Review. After considerable time preparing The College for sale, Canaccord Genuity launched a formal sale process in September 2011.
