In order to open an account, make sure you have a clear image of a valid piece of identification with your picture (driver’s licence, health card, passport, etc) and your social security number. You will also need to provide your employer’s information (if any), your financial information (assets, liabilities, etc) and an image of a cheque from the bank account you wish to link to your investment account (most Canadian financial institutions provide images to set up direct deposits and payments on their websites).
Opening an account is free. Other fees may apply for account administration, inactivity or day-to-day trading. Please refer to the pricing list to view all fees.
The minimum deposit required for a cash or registered account is $5,000 and the amount for a margin account is $15,000.
Start trading in your account as little as 2 days after your account is approved. Of course, it may take more time for us to verify and approve your accounts, but you will be notified as soon as everything is in order!
With a margin account, you can borrow money against investments in your account. If the security qualifies for margin, for example, you could borrow a percentage of the value to purchase the security at a competitive interest rate.
Trading fees are tax-deductible. Management fees charged may be tax-deductible for non-registered accounts. Please consult your tax professional for advice specific to your situation.
