Catch up on the FTWeekend Festival highlights
Earlier this month, our experts Tom Becket, from the Chief Investment Office, and David Goodfellow, Head of Financial Planning, took to the stage to represent CGWM at the FTWeekend Festival.
Riding out the turbulent twenties
In his session, Tom shared his thoughts on what we at CGWM have coined the ‘turbulent twenties’, and explained why we don’t think now is a good time for investors to ‘stop the ride’ and pull their money. Tom’s energetic presentation gave the audience reason to believe that, from an investment standpoint, the volatility we currently face is not necessarily a bad thing for investors – particularly in light of the current levels of inflation – and he offered some examples of how you can utilise the current situation to your advantage. Watch the highlights of Tom’s talk below:

Pertinent questions for the pensions panel
David Goodfellow shared his expertise on the festival’s pensions panel, led by the insightful Claer Barrett. Facing tough questions from FT Money readers, the panel explored how investors can make the most of their pensions – outlining how pensions can be used to pass wealth onto future generations as part of inheritance tax planning, and the tax benefits of employer pension contributions, particularly for business owners.
The panel also discussed the recent changes to the Lifetime Allowance policy and the possible impact of a Labour government on pensions as they stand now. David highlighted the complexities of this nuanced topic, and concluded alongside the rest of the panel that the changing nature of pensions legislation means that almost all investors would benefit from the advice of a qualified financial planning expert in this area.
